<p class="C1">&#65279VIESKENAWITCH, a Russian adventurer, who, after several years of brigandage, escaped to Persia and took up service under Sh&#257h Abb&#257s Mirz&#257. He had attained the rank of colonel when he resigned and travelling through Central Asia, reached Pesh&#257war in January 1829. Here he was employed by P&#299r Muhammad <u>Kh</u>&#257n B&#257rakza&#299 to train his artillery. In March 1830, he came to Lahore and entered Mah&#257r&#257j&#257 Ra&#7751j&#299t Si&#7749gh's service as a battalion commander, under Gul&#257b Si&#7749gh, then serving in Haz&#257r&#257 and Kashm&#299r. In April 1835, he resigned and proceeded to Gw&#257l&#299or.</p>
