A soldier by profession, he rendered into Hindi verse Amar Ko&#347a and "A&#347vamedha Parva" of the Mah&#257bh&#257rata. He titled the former work Ratan D&#257m. Several Sikh scholars such as B&#257b&#257 Sumer Si&#7749gh, Bh&#257&#299 Gi&#257n Si&#7749gh, Bh&#257&#299 K&#257hn Si&#7749gh and Bh&#257&#299 V&#299r Si&#7749gh count &#7788ahikan among Gur&#363 Gobind Si&#7749gh's poets, although there is no explicit reference to the Gur&#363 in his work. His A&#347vamedha Parva is dated 1726 Bk/AD 1669 by the poet himself. It is possible that as the work of rendering the ancient texts, into Bh&#257kh&#257, in Gurmukh&#299 script under the patronage of Gur&#363 Gobind Si&#7749gh was in progress &#7788ahikan's manuscripts were brought to him by the poet himself or by someone else. Gur&#363 Gobind Si&#7749gh may have got them transcribed into Gurmukh&#299. The manuscript of A&#347vamedha Parva preserved in the Sikh Reference Library at Amritsar (No. 5026) was dated 1753 Bk/AD 1696 by B&#257lgovind Fateh Chand, one of the scribes serving Gur&#363 Gobind Si&#7749gh. The manuscript (No. 2420), entitled Ratan D&#257m (Amar Ko&#347a Bh&#257kh&#257), is preserved in the Central Public Library at Pa&#7789i&#257l&#257.

BIBLIOGRAPHY

Bachitra N&#257&#7789ak

Sain&#257pati, Sr&#299 Gur Sobh&#257, ed.
