<p class="C1">&#65279SHY&#256M SINGH, a great-grandson of Gur&#363 Hargobind (1595-1644), received the rites of the <u>Kh</u>&#257ls&#257 at the hands of Gur&#363 Gobind Si&#7749gh (1666-1708). After the evacuation of the town in December 1705, Shy&#257m Si&#7749gh along with his brother Gul&#257b Si&#7749gh was left at Anandpur, with the Gur&#363's letter of introduction to the ruler of N&#257han in case they found their stay at Anandpur made difficult. The brothers escaped to N&#257han and found asylum there, but returned to Anandpur when the situation so permitted, and purchased the town from the R&#257j&#257 of Bil&#257spur. The So&#7693h&#299s of Anandpur are Shy&#257m Si&#7749gh's descendants.</p>
