After the evacuation of the town in December 1705, Shy&#257m Si&#7749gh along with his brother Gul&#257b Si&#7749gh was left at Anandpur, with the Gur&#363's letter of introduction to the ruler of N&#257han in case they found their stay at Anandpur made difficult. The brothers escaped to N&#257han and found asylum there, but returned to Anandpur when the situation so permitted, and purchased the town from the R&#257j&#257 of Bil&#257spur.
