Sa&#7749gr&#257m Sh&#257h, along with his four brothers, J&#299t Mall, Gul&#257b R&#257i, M&#257har&#299 Chand and Ga&#7749g&#257 R&#257m, fought in the battle of Bha&#7749g&#257&#7751&#299 (1688). Gur&#363 Gobind Si&#7749gh in his autobiographical composition <i>Bachitra N&#257&#7789ak</i>, especially applauds the heroism of Sa&#7749gr&#257m Sh&#257h confronting the Pa&#7789h&#257n mercenaries who had earlier deserted the Gur&#363's camp and joined the enemy ranks. Fighting valiantly, he came face to face with their commander, Naj&#257bat <u>Kh</u>&#257n.
