He became a Sikh under the influence of his wife and her father, Nar&#257i&#7751 D&#257s. Such was his devotion to Gur&#363 Hargobind that, once as he constructed a new house, he vowed that he would not occupy it until the Gur&#363 had blessed it by a visit. Gur&#363 Hargobind did visit &#7692araul&#299 with his mother and wife and stayed with Bh&#257&#299 S&#257&#299&#7749 D&#257s in his new house for a considerable time awaiting the birth of his first child, B&#257b&#257 Gurditt&#257. This was in 1613. Eighteen years later, M&#257t&#257 D&#257modar&#299, on another visit to &#7692araul&#299, expired in the home of S&#257&#299&#7749 D&#257s after a brief illness. S&#257&#299&#7749 D&#257s' wife, R&#257mo, pined away at the loss of her sister and died soon after.
