Ral&#299&#257 R&#257m displayed great energy and resourcefulness in securing peace and putting an end to thefts and highway robberies. In 1812 he was entrusted with charge of the customs department of the, State, Ral&#299&#257 R&#257m introduced uniform rates for articles of import and export and kept a strict watch over the accounts. The measures he adopted to end corruption and bribery earned him the hostility of many courtiers who poisoned the ears of the Mah&#257r&#257j&#257 against him. In 1833, Ral&#299&#257 R&#257m was appointed keeper of records. In 1841, he discovered a sulphur mine in R&#257walpi&#7751&#7693&#299 district for which Mah&#257r&#257j&#257 Sher Si&#7749gh granted him a <i>j&#257g&#299r</i> worth 11,000 rupees at Ja&#7751&#7693i&#257l&#257.
