<p class="C1">&#65279R&#256J KAUR, daughter of R&#257j&#257 Gajpat Si&#7749gh of J&#299nd, was the mother of Mah&#257r&#257j&#257 Ra&#7751j&#299t Si&#7749gh. As she came from the M&#257lv&#257 region, she was affectionately known as M&#257&#299 Malvai&#7751. When her husband Mah&#257&#7749 Si&#7749gh died, their son Ra&#7751j&#299t Si&#7749gh was too young to assume control of the estate. M&#257&#299 R&#257j Kaur took over authority and administered the affairs of the Sukkarchakk&#299&#257 family with the help of her husband's minister, Lakhpat R&#257i. When Ra&#7751j&#299t Si&#7749gh came of age, he did away with her control and took power into his own hands. This proved a great shock to her, and she gradually pined away to her end.</p>
