<p class="C1">&#65279R&#256I SI&#7748GH (d.1809), one of the leaders of the K&#257ro&#7771si&#7749gh&#299&#257 <i>misl</i> was the son of  Mat&#257b Si&#7749gh of M&#299r&#257&#7749ko&#7789 in Amritsar district, the avenger of the sacrilege perpetrated by Masse <u>Kh</u>&#257n, the Muslim chieftain, who had occupied the holy Harimandar and converted it into a place of revelry. R&#257i Si&#7749gh was nursed back to health by the village elder, Natth&#257 Khaihr&#257, when he as a small child was grievously wounded and left as dead by an imperial force that had come in search of his father. As R&#257i Si&#7749gh grew up, he joined the <i>jath&#257</i> or band of Shi&#257m Si&#7749gh of N&#257rl&#299, a commander of the Karo&#7771si&#7749gh&#299&#257s, who gave him his daughter in marriage. At the conquest of Sirhind by the Sikhs in January 1764, R&#257i Si&#7749gh occupied a number of villages in Samral&#257 <i>tahs&#299l</i> of Ludhi&#257&#7751&#257 district. R&#257i Si&#7749gh built a mud fort at M&#299r&#257&#7749ko&#7789 where he lived until his death in 1809. His son, Ratan Si&#7749gh Bha&#7749g&#363, is the author of the famed <i>Pr&#257ch&#299n Panth Prak&#257sh</i>, which delineates in verse the history of the Sikhs during that stirring period.</p>
