According to Bh&#257&#299 Man&#299 Si&#7749gh Janam S&#257kh&#299, he kept a maktab or elementary Muslim school in the village of Talva&#7751&#7693&#299 R&#257i Bhoe, the birthplace of Gur&#363 N&#257nak. As a young boy Gur&#363 N&#257nak was sent to his school to learn Persian and Arabic. He gained proficiency in both in a short time and astonished the teacher by his native endowment. As Miharb&#257n Janam S&#257kh&#299 records: "The Maulaw&#299 would often say, &#8216Praise be to the Lord of the worlds! Such easy facility with the Persian language... he grasps instantly what he hears once..."While at school Gur&#363 N&#257nak, says Man&#299 Si&#7749gh Janam S&#257kh&#299, composed a spiritually inspired acrostic employing the Persian characters from Alif on.
