He began fortifying Kas&#363r in an endeavour to overthrow the authority of Ra&#7751j&#299t Si&#7749gh whose tributary he was. Ra&#7751j&#299t Si&#7749gh led an expedition against him in 1807. A battle was fought on 10 February and the Afgh&#257ns were forced to take shelter inside the Fort. The siege lasted a month before the Fort fell. The Sikh force entered the Fort, Qutb ud-D&#299n was captured and Kas&#363r was annexed to the Sikh kingdom. Qutb ud-D&#299n was allowed to retain Mamdo&#7789, across the Sutlej, as a j&#257g&#299r on payment of a nominal tribute. In the joint Sikh Afgh&#257n expedition against Kashm&#299r, Qutb ud-D&#299n accompanied the Sikh force. In 1831, Niz&#257m ud D&#299n's son, Fateh Kh&#257n, revolted against his uncle, Qutb ud-D&#299n, who was severely wounded in the clash that took place. He fled to Amritsar where he died in 1832.

BIBLIOGRAPHY

Griffin, Lepel and C.F.
