The family migrated to Niz&#257mpur Dev&#257 Si&#7749ghv&#257l&#257 in Shei<u>kh</u>&#363pur&#257 district (now in Pakistan). Bh&#257&#299 Pañj&#257b Si&#7749gh had a younger brother, Narai&#7751 Si&#7749gh by name. Both were hardworking husbandmen, deeply religious. On 19 February 1921, Narai&#7751 Si&#7749gh had left home to join the corps of volunteers to have the holy shrines at Nank&#257&#7751&#257 S&#257hib liberated. When Pañj&#257b Si&#7749gh learnt this he ran after him to offer himself as a volunteer.
