He had facility in reciting hymns from the Gur&#363 Granth S&#257hib and was widely travelled. He was summoned by Mah&#257r&#257j Si&#7749gh to R&#257walpi&#7751&#7693&#299 before the battles of Chel&#299&#257&#7749v&#257l&#257 and Gujr&#257t, and was assigned to procuring grain for the <u>Kh</u>&#257ls&#257 army. After the battles, Bh&#257&#299 Mah&#257r&#257j Si&#7749gh had moved to Jamm&#363 region and thence to S&#363jov&#257l, near Ba&#7789&#257l&#257. At the latter place a plan was made to abduct the young Mah&#257r&#257j&#257 Duleep Si&#7749gh before the British removed him from the Punjab. Narai&#7751 Si&#7749gh provided finance for the party entrusted with the execution of the plan (which, however, leaked prematurely and failed). He also financed the trip of Mah&#257r&#257j Si&#7749gh's emissaries to Bh&#257&#299 Kishan Si&#7749gh and Bh&#257&#299 Nih&#257l Si&#7749gh in the North-West Frontier Province.
