As a young boy, he was trained in the family craft and then moved to Lahir&#257 <u>Kh</u>&#257n&#257, in Ba&#7789hi&#7751&#7693&#257 district of the Punjab, to join a seminary run by Sant Vadh&#257v&#257 Si&#7749gh from whom he learnt to read Sikh Scripture, the Gur&#363 Granth S&#257hib. Under the influence of a Sikh mystic, B&#257b&#257 Harn&#257m Si&#7749gh of Bhucho Kal&#257&#7749, he was drawn to meditation and practised the discipline for twelve years at various places such as Haz&#363r S&#257hib (N&#257nde&#7693), Lahir&#257 <u>Kh</u>&#257n&#257, Ha&#7771app&#257 and Bhi&#7771k&#299. Rewarded with insight, he took to preaching Gur&#363 N&#257nak's word and travelled extensively across the country. He established preaching centres called &#7788h&#257&#7789hs at N&#257naksar Kaler&#257&#7749, Jha&#7749g Maghi&#257&#7751&#257, Bhi&#7771k&#299, Ha&#7771app&#257, Montgomery, Jhora&#7771&#257&#7749 and in a village, Paud&#257, near Dehr&#257 D&#363n. In his favourite sermons, he stressed the value of <i>k&#299rtan</i>, i.e. singing of the holy hymns, and <i>simaran</i>, i.e. repetition of the Divine Name.</p> <p class="C1">&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; Sant Nand Si&#7749gh died at the village of Kaler&#257&#7749 on 30 August 1943 and his remains were consigned to the River Sutlej at Sidhv&#257&#7749 Pattan.
