He, as says Bh&#257&#299 Man&#299 Si&#7749gh, <i>Sikh&#257&#7749 d&#299 Bhagat M&#257l&#257</i>, once came to see Gur&#363 Arjan and said, "Lord, we regularly recite the sacred hymns and we reflect upon them; yet our minds are not cleansed." Gur&#363 Arjan quoted from Gur&#363 N&#257nak's <i>Japu</i>: "If the mind be defiled by sin, it is purged by the love of <i>n&#257m</i> i.e. the Divine Name." "Therefore" said the Gur&#363, "continue reciting and listening to <i>gurb&#257&#7751&#299</i> and practise <i>n&#257m</i>. Thus will your mind be purified."
