Tej Si&#7749gh died in 1862 leaving behind a large estate and a minor son, (later R&#257j&#257) Harba&#7749s Si&#7749gh. The British government appointed M&#363l Si&#7749gh as steward of the R&#257j&#257's estate. M&#363l Si&#7749gh was able to increase the revenues of the estate and to pay off the substantial costs associated with the marriage of his ward, Harba&#7749s Si&#7749gh. The Government of the Punjab praised M&#363l Si&#7749gh for his efforts and rewarded him with a <i><u>kh</u>ill'at</i> of Rs 1,000. He was an honorary magistrate of Lahore city and Honorary Assistant Commissioner in Gujr&#257&#7749w&#257l&#257 district.
