According to <i>Pur&#257tan Janam S&#257kh&#299</i>, Gur&#363 N&#257nak and Mard&#257n&#257 too were among the prisoners. Both were made to perform forced labour, Gur&#363 N&#257nak as a coolie and Mard&#257n&#257 as a horse attendant. M&#299r <u>Kh</u>&#257n, when he came to watch the prisoners, was startled to observe that the Gur&#363's load remained suspended a full cubit above his head and that the horse followed Mard&#257n&#257 without a halter. This information he conveyed to B&#257bar, who declared, "Had I known there were such <i>faq&#299rs</i> here, I should not have destroyed the town."
