In December 1844, Mev&#257 Si&#7749gh was nominated a member of the council constituted by Mah&#257r&#257&#7751&#299 Jind Kaur to run the administration of the Punjab. He commanded the Lahore Darb&#257r force despatched to Jamm&#363 in February 1845 for the chastisement of R&#257j&#257 Gul&#257b Si&#7749gh. Of all the Maj&#299&#7789h&#299&#257 sard&#257rs connected with the Sikh court, Mev&#257 Si&#7749gh was the only one who took the part of the &#7693ogr&#257s. It was through his intervention and that of Sard&#257r Chatar Si&#7749gh A&#7789&#257r&#299v&#257l&#257 that milder terms were given to R&#257j&#257 Gul&#257b Si&#7749gh, whose forces were routed by Ra&#7751jodh Si&#7749gh Maj&#299&#7789h&#299&#257 at Akhn&#363r in March 1845. Mev&#257 Si&#7749gh pleaded with skill and vigour before the Kh&#257ls&#257 Council for the restoration of Gul&#257b Si&#7749gh's power and territories.
