He participated in the battles of Sa'dull&#257pur and Gujr&#257t. After the defeat of the Sikh forces, Mayy&#257 Si&#7749gh was in Bh&#257&#299 Mah&#257r&#257j Si&#7749gh's train at Dev Ba&#7789&#257l&#257 in Jamm&#363 and at S&#363jov&#257l, near Ba&#7789&#257l&#257. From the latter place he was sent to Lahore on a mission, and thus escaped arrest when Mah&#257r&#257j Si&#7749gh and his companions were captured on the night of 28-29 December 1849.
