<p class="C1">&#65279MATHUR&#256 and his father Bhikkh&#257 were among the Bha&#7789&#7789 or Br&#257hma&#7749 bards who attended upon the Gur&#363s and who composed panegyrics in their honour. Some of their hymns were included by Gur&#363 Arjan (1563-1606) in Sikh scripture, the Gur&#363 Granth S&#257hib. Mathur&#257's fourteen verses are seven each in praise of Gur&#363 R&#257m D&#257s and Gur&#363 Arjan. Their prosodic form is <i>Savaiyy&#257</i>. Bha&#7789&#7789 Mathur&#257 was also trained in martial skills during the time of Gur&#363 Hargobind (1595-1644). He fell a martyr in the battle of Amritsar which, according to <i>Bha&#7789&#7789 Vah&#299 M&#363lt&#257n&#299 Sindh&#299</i>, took place on 14 April 1634.</p>
