When Mat&#257bar Si&#7749gh reached Ludhi&#257&#7751&#257, he was detained by the British agent. However, on a representation made by the Mah&#257r&#257j&#257's government he was permitted to proceed to Lahore. The mission appears to have failed and the R&#257j&#257 of Nepal confiscated Mat&#257bar Si&#7749gh's property worth several lakh. The R&#257j&#257 made up his differences with the British government, and Mat&#257bar Si&#7749gh returned to Nepal in January 1843 and was appointed prime minister.
