He had been brought up by Gur&#363 Arjan himself. As he grew up, he started performing <i>k&#299rtan</i> at Gurdw&#257r&#257 Chaub&#257r&#257 S&#257hib and Gurdw&#257r&#257 B&#257ol&#299 S&#257hib at Goindv&#257l. Gur&#363 Hargobind was at K&#299ratpur when news reached him of the death of Manohar D&#257s at Goindv&#257l. The Gur&#363 was much grieved and observed formal mourning.
