According to local tradition, Gur&#363 N&#257nak visited the site in the course of his travels during the early sixteenth century. The local chief, Naw&#257b Jal&#257l ud-D&#299n Lodh&#299, living in the fort near by, came to pay obeisance and besought the Gur&#363 to save the town from erosion by the River Sutlej. Gur&#363 N&#257nak told him to be symp&#257thetic and just towards his subjects and to leave the rest to God. Only a platform called Tha&#7771&#257 S&#257hib existed here to commemorate the Gur&#363's visit until a proper building was constructed in 1972-73. The present building is a small rectangular hall in front of a flat-roofed sanctum where two volumes of the Gur&#363 Granth S&#257hib are placed side by side. A sarovar has since been added by diverting the Bu&#7693&#7693h&#257 N&#257l&#257 and reclaiming part of what used to be its bed once upon a time. The Gurdw&#257r&#257 is affiliated to the Shiroma&#7751&#299 Gurdw&#257r&#257 Parbandhak Committee and is managed by a local committee.

Major Gurmukh Si&#7749gh (Retd.)
