He travelled in the remote parts of Sindh and Afghanistan. In Khor&#257s&#257n he embraced Islam and adopted the name of Muhammad <u>Kh</u>&#257n. He came to Lahore in 1825, and, in an interview with Mah&#257r&#257j&#257 Ra&#7751j&#299t Si&#7749gh, stated that he knew the art of cartography. He showed him maps of K&#257bul, Kandah&#257r, Sindh and Pesh&#257war. The Mah&#257r&#257j&#257 gave him appointment and attached him to General Ventura.
