<p class="C1">&#65279L&#256L&#362, BH&#256&#298, headman of Kha&#7693&#363r (S&#257hib), a village in Amritsar district of the Punjab, became a devout Sikh of Gur&#363 A&#7749gad. According to Bh&#257&#299 Man&#299 Si&#7749gh, <i>Sikh&#257&#7749 d&#299 Bhagat M&#257l&#257</i>, he along with Bh&#257&#299 Durg&#257 and Bh&#257&#299 J&#299vand&#257 once begged the Gur&#363 to show them the way to liberation. Gur&#363 A&#7749gad replied that <i>paropk&#257r</i>, doing good to others, was the best way to secure release from the bondage of birth and death. He further elaborated that <i>paropk&#257r</i> could be practised in different ways. One could help the poor and the needy with one's wealth or by sharing one's victuals with them; one could render physical service to others; or one could impart knowledge or give good counsel to fellowmen. The three Sikhs bowed to the Gur&#363 and humbly dedicated themselves to deeds of service.</p>
<p class="C1">&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;Bh&#257&#299 L&#257l&#363 continued to pay homage to Gur&#363 Amar Das.</p>
