When Gur&#363 Gobind Si&#7749gh, disguised as the P&#299r of Uchch and carried in a palanquin, was passing by this village, the commander of an imperial patrol in search of him, suspecting that the P&#299r might in fact be the Gur&#363, stopped and interrogated the party. Sayyid P&#299r Muhammad of N&#363rpur, who was present and who had in fact recognized the Gur&#363 for he had once been his Persian tutor, testified that the personage inside the palanquin was a most exalted P&#299r, and the party was allowed to proceed. A modest looking shrine was later established under a banyan tree where Gur&#363 Gobind Si&#7749gh had stopped. The present building was raised towards the close of the nineteenth century by N&#257mdh&#257r&#299 Sikhs from whom the Shiroma&#7751&#299 Gurdw&#257r&#257 Parbandhak Committee acquired possession through a legal suit. The Gurdw&#257r&#257, inside a walled compound is an octagon-shaped room, with the sanctum in the middle. Over the sanctum on the first floor there is a low-domed room built in the same style. In a field next to the Gurdw&#257r&#257 compound there is a peculiar banyan tree having pointed leaves like those of a p&#299pal tree. The villagers see in this peculiarity Gur&#363 Gobind Si&#7749gh's own miracle.

Major Gurmukh Si&#7749gh (Retd.)
