<p class="C1">&#65279LACHHMA&#7750 SI&#7748GH GRANTH&#298, BH&#256&#298 (1867-1921), one of the martyrs of Nank&#257&#7751&#257 S&#257hib, was born in 1867, the son of Bh&#257&#299 N&#257nak and M&#257&#299 Ga&#7749g&#257 De&#299. His original name was Lachhma&#7751. As he grew up, he enlisted in the army as a cook. There he underwent the rites of <u>Kh</u>&#257ls&#257 initiation and received the new name of Lachhma&#7751 Si&#7749gh. While in service, he learnt Gurmukh&#299 well enough to be able to read the Gur&#363 Granth S&#257hib. On his discharge from the army, Bh&#257&#299 Lachhma&#7751 Si&#7749gh settled down as a Gurdw&#257r&#257 officiant at Chakk No. 83 &#7692all&#257 Na&#7749gal, in Shei<u>kh</u>&#363pur&#257 district. He was drawn into the Gurdw&#257r&#257 movement for the reform and management of Sikh shrines. He registered himself as an Ak&#257l&#299 volunteer and attained martyrdom along with Bh&#257&#299 Lachhma&#7751 Si&#7749gh Dh&#257rov&#257li's <i>jath&#257</i> inside the compound of Gurdw&#257r&#257 Janam Asth&#257n on 20 February 1921.</p>
