In 1819, Kirp&#257 R&#257m was sent by Mah&#257r&#257j&#257 Ra&#7751j&#299t Si&#7749gh to Haz&#257r&#257 to settle that turbulent country. The same year he was transferred to the Jalandhar Do&#257b as governor in place of his father, Mot&#299 R&#257m, entrusted with charge of the Kashm&#299r province. In 1823, Kirp&#257 R&#257m joined the Mah&#257r&#257j&#257 with the Do&#257b forces and took part in the battle of Naushehr&#257 in which the Afgh&#257n forces under Muhammad 'Az&#299m Kh&#257n of K&#257bul suffered a heavy defeat. D&#299w&#257n Kirp&#257 R&#257m took charge of the S&#363bah-i- K&#257shm&#299r in 1827. In 1830, owing to R&#257j&#257 Dhi&#257n Si&#7749gh's machinations, he was recalled to Lahore on charges of corruption and imprisoned. Thus humiliated, Kirp&#257 R&#257m made plans to flee Lahore. He secretly slipped across the Sutlej, and repaired to Ban&#257ras to join his father. He never returned to Lahore, although attempts were made by the Sandh&#257&#7749v&#257l&#299&#257 chiefs and Mah&#257r&#257&#7751&#299 Chand Kaur to recall him to the Punjab. Kirp&#257 R&#257m died at Haridv&#257r on 11 November 1843.

BIBLIOGRAPHY

S&#363r&#299, Sohan L&#257l, 'Umd&#257tutTw&#257r&#299kh.
