He had been forcibly converted to Islam during the time of Naw&#257b Zakar&#299y&#257 <u>Kh</u>&#257n. He, however, re-joined the Sikh faith receiving the rites of initiation at the hands of D&#299w&#257n Darb&#257r&#257 Si&#7749gh. Karo&#7771&#257 Si&#7749gh generally confined his activities to the tract lying south of the K&#257&#7749g&#7771&#257 hills in Hoshi&#257rpur district. In 1759, after the death of &#256d&#299n&#257 Beg <u>Kh</u>&#257n, Karo&#7771&#257 Si&#7749gh killed &#256d&#299n&#257's <i>d&#299w&#257n</i> Bishambhar Mall, and seized considerable territory, including places such as Hoshi&#257rpur, Har&#299&#257&#7751&#257 and Sh&#257m Chaur&#257s&#299.
