Karam Si&#7749gh rapidly rose in the Mah&#257r&#257j&#257's favour and became a powerful <i>sard&#257r</i>. He took part in most of the Mah&#257r&#257j&#257's campaigns, including those of Pi&#7751&#7693&#299 Bha&#7789&#7789i&#257&#7749, Po&#7789hoh&#257r, Jha&#7749g, Kas&#363r and Mult&#257n. The Mah&#257r&#257j&#257 gave him several villages in <i>j&#257g&#299r</i> at Ajn&#257l&#257, in Amritsar district, and at Kh&#257nev&#257l, in Mult&#257n district. His estates eventually reached the value of Rs 1,50,000 subject to the service of 250 horse. Karam Si&#7749gh fell wounded by a musket ball in the battle of &#7788er&#299 in March 1823 in which the celebrated Ph&#363l&#257 Si&#7749gh Ak&#257l&#299 had been killed. He was carried to his tent, but died the following morning.
