His grandfather, Hoshn&#257k R&#257i, was in the service of Sard&#257r Dal Si&#7749gh of Ak&#257lga&#7771h and his father was governor of Mult&#257n. Karam Narai&#7751 acted as the lieutenant of his father in the Leiah district carrying on civil duties as well as holding military command in the fort of Manker&#257. He endeared himself to the people by his impartiality and liberal nature. After the death of his father, Karam Narai&#7751 did not remain on good terms with his brother, M&#363l R&#257j, who even confined him in the house in 1847 for two months and, after his release, let him leave Mult&#257n with his share of paternal property. He settled at Ak&#257lga&#7771h. He did not play any part in the rebellion of M&#363l R&#257j.
