Sikh chronicles usually refer to it as Ka&#7771&#257-M&#257nakpur, but M&#257nakpur is a separate village 5 km away on the opposite bank of the Ga&#7749g&#257.

Gur&#363 Tegh Bah&#257dur in the course of his journey to the eastern parts in 1665-66 halted at Ka&#7771&#257 on his way from K&#257npur to All&#257h&#257b&#257d. At Ka&#7771&#257, he met Sant Mal&#363k D&#257s, a famous Vai&#7779&#7751ava saint. Mal&#363k D&#257s had heard about Gur&#363 N&#257nak and the spiritual line issuing from him. He was surprised to see his Ninth successor accompanied by armed disciples who hunted animals. But on beholding Gur&#363 Tegh Bah&#257dur, his doubts disappeared as clouds disperse before high winds. He, according to Sr&#299 Gur Prat&#257p S&#363raj Granth, said to himself, "Though the Gur&#363 is clad as a prince, his mind is fixed in divine knowledge. He is the ocean of qualities. How can an ignorant one like me praise him? Sinner I have been from birth. His sanctity I did not fathom." Mal&#363k D&#257s fell at the Gur&#363's feet and took him to his hut where he served him with humility.

There is no Sikh shrine at Ka&#7771&#257 at present, but a pamphlet published by the followers of Sant Mal&#363k D&#257s testifies that a Sikh sa&#7749gat and a Sikh gurdw&#257r&#257 once flourished here, and that once in a year a gathering took place here of members of all communities when ka&#7771&#257h pras&#257d was freely distributed.

BIBLIOGRAPHY

Gi&#257n Si&#7749gh, Gi&#257n&#299, Tw&#257r&#299kh Gurdu&#257ri&#257&#7749.
