He, along with his father, was among the five Sikhs chosen to accompany Band&#257 Si&#7749gh Bah&#257dur to the Punjab in 1708. He took part in Band&#257 Si&#7749gh's campaigns against the Mu<u>gh</u>al rulers. After the capture of Sirhind by the Sikhs in May 1710, K&#257hn Si&#7749gh was made deputy to his father who was given charge of the border district of Karn&#257l. He fought battles against the Mu<u>gh</u>al commander F&#299roz <u>Kh</u>&#257n Mev&#257t&#299 at Am&#299n, Tar&#257o&#7771&#299, Th&#257nesar and Sh&#257h&#257b&#257d to check the latter's advance towards the Punjab. Later, he had differences with Band&#257 Si&#7749gh during the siege at Gurd&#257s Na&#7749gal and left his camp.
