He began his career in Mah&#257r&#257j&#257 Ra&#7751j&#299t Si&#7749gh's army under General Avitabile and was present in the <u>Kh</u>aib&#257r Pass actions and throughout the Y&#363safza&#299 campaign. He served in the Sher Dil Pal&#7789an in the first Anglo-Sikh war. After the annexation of the Punjab, he joined the 30th Punjab infantry. He rose to the rank of S&#363bahd&#257r-Major and rendered service in the Bh&#363&#7789&#257n campaign of 1864-65 shortly after which he retired.
