As he first visited the Gur&#363, he was accompanied by Bh&#257&#299 Durg&#257 and Bh&#257&#299 L&#257l&#363. The Gur&#363 in the words of Bh&#257&#299 Man&#299 Si&#7749gh, <i>Sikh&#257&#7749 d&#299 Bhagat M&#257l&#257</i>, spoke to them : "There is nothing to match <i>parupk&#257r</i>, i.e. acts of goodwill and charity. One should put the welfare of others above one's own interests, share with the needy what one has, contribute the labour of one's hands and limbs for the common good, and pray for the well-being of all." Bh&#257&#299 J&#299vand&#257 and his companions became the Gur&#363's disciples and practised his advice.
