He first saw active service in Kashm&#299r where he was wounded. For the bravery he displayed in the &#7788o&#7749k campaign, he was appointed to the adjutancy of the Sher Dil Pal&#7789an. He again went on active service in 1841 in Kashm&#299r where he lost his younger brother, Kishan Si&#7749gh. For his services in the campaign, he was promoted to the command of the regiment. Shortly after the return of the regiment to Lahore, J&#299van Si&#7749gh was sent with it to Amritsar to guard the Darb&#257r S&#257hib. On the occupation of the Punjab by the British, the regiment was taken over by them and it formed the nucleus of the 19th Punjab Infantry. J&#299van Si&#7749gh was confirmed in the position of commandant, with the rank of Colonel.</p> <p class="C1">&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; J&#299van Si&#7749gh died at Amritsar in 1851.
