He saw military service in Puñchh where D&#299w&#257n Dhanpat R&#257i and M&#299r B&#257z <u>Kh</u>&#257n had been giving trouble, and was then ordered to Haz&#257r&#257. He accompanied the Mah&#257r&#257j&#257 in the campaign of 1821-22 when Manker&#257 and &#7692er&#257 Ism&#257'&#299l <u>Kh</u>&#257n were taken, and received for his gallantry valuable presents. He remained mostly on the frontier, in Chhachh, Pesh&#257war and Haz&#257r&#257. He was a man of energy and ability, and the Mah&#257r&#257j&#257 gave him charge, under Sard&#257r Har&#299 Si&#7749gh Nalv&#257, of this most unruly part of the country. In 1836, Jha&#7751&#7693&#257 Si&#7749gh accompanied Prince Nau Nih&#257l Si&#7749gh on his &#7692er&#257j&#257t expedition. During part of the K&#257bul campaign, he was governor of the Attock Fort. Prime Minister Jaw&#257har Si&#7749gh made Jha&#7751&#7693&#257 Si&#7749gh Ad&#257lat&#299, or chief justice of Lahore, in conjunction with D&#299w&#257n H&#257kim R&#257i, and he held this office until 1846.
