He was left behind at their camp at Chumb&#299 in the interior of Jamm&#363 region, when Mah&#257r&#257j Si&#7749gh with the main body of his troops shifted to S&#363jov&#257l, in Gurd&#257spur district. He soon re-joined them at Zah&#363r&#257, in Hoshi&#257rpur district. He was among the twenty trusted men detailed to rescue Mah&#257r&#257j&#257 Duleep Si&#7749gh from British custody.
