Two years later he was posted to Pesh&#257war where he took part in numerous campaigns against the Af<u>gh</u>&#257ns up to the time of his father's death at Jamr&#363d in April 1837. During the second Anglo-Sikh war, he joined hands with R&#257j&#257 Sher Si&#7749gh's forces and fought against the British with great gallantry at Chel&#299&#257&#7749v&#257l&#257, leading a desperate charge of irregular cavalry, which had nearly proved decisive.</p> <p class="C1">&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; In 1857, Jaw&#257h&#257r Si&#7749gh was appointed Ris&#257ld&#257r in the Ist Sikh Cavalry raised by the British after the abrogation of Sikh rule. He saw action at Lucknow, K&#257npur and at several other places.
