His father, &#7788h&#257kur Si&#7749gh, held a minor command. Javand Si&#7749gh joined the Sikh army as a trooper. He was placed under D&#299w&#257n Muhkam Chand and took part in the battle fought near Attock, in July 1813. The same year he fought in the battle of Haidr&#363 in which the Sikhs worsted the Waz&#299r of K&#257bul, Fateh <u>Kh</u>&#257n. For his gallantry in the battle he was assigned a <i>j&#257g&#299r</i> worth Rs 30,000 annually in Gujr&#257t district. He also took part in the expeditions of Mult&#257n (1818) and Kashm&#299r (1819). His fortune rose quickly, and he became a <i>sard&#257r</i> and companion of the Mah&#257r&#257j&#257.</p> <p class="C1">&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; Javand Si&#7749gh, along with his troops, was in the entourage of the Mah&#257r&#257j&#257 at the Ropa&#7771 meeting in 1831. His sons, Bel&#257 Si&#7749gh and Gurmukh Si&#7749gh, inherited the <i>j&#257g&#299r</i>. The former, with 200 horse, took part in the first Anglo-Sikh war. He was wounded at Sabhr&#257o&#7749 and washed away in the River Sutlej. Bel&#257 Si&#7749gh's son, Surjan Si&#7749gh, fought in the second Anglo-Sikh war.
