<p class="C1">&#65279JAV&#256L&#256 SI&#7748GH of S&#363jov&#257l, a village in Gurd&#257spur district of the Punjab, was a prominent associate of Bh&#257&#299 Mah&#257r&#257j Si&#7749gh (d. 1856), leader of the anti-British revolt of 1848-49. He remained with Mah&#257r&#257j Si&#7749gh during the second Anglo-Sikh war and escaped with him to Jamm&#363 after the final defeat of the Sikh forces. He was later deputed to work in the M&#257jh&#257 area and prepare the people for a fresh uprising.</p>
