He accompanied Sh&#257h Zam&#257n to India in 1797 and recovered his possessions on the River Chen&#257b in Gujr&#257nw&#257l&#257 district with the aid of the Af<u>gh</u>&#257ns, but this was a short-lived gain, for Ra&#7751j&#299t Si&#7749gh attacked his headquarters, Ras&#363lnagar, after the Sh&#257h's return to Afghanistan. The besieged Cha&#7789&#7789h&#257s, under J&#257n Muhammad, made a gallant resistance. However, they lost footing gradually. J&#257n Muhammad was killed by a cannon-shot and the fort surrendered (1798).
