He was married to N&#257nak&#299, daughter of Kali&#257&#7751 Chand and sister of Gur&#363 N&#257nak, in 1475 at Talva&#7751&#7693&#299 R&#257i Bhoi. Gur&#363 N&#257nak stayed with them for several years at Sult&#257npur, where Jai R&#257m had secured for him appointment as the Naw&#257b's <i>mod&#299</i> or storekeeper. Jai R&#257m, though much senior to Gur&#363 N&#257nak in age, respected the latter for his piety and considered himself blessed for being related to him. Gur&#363 N&#257nak was present at Sult&#257npur Lodh&#299 in 1518 when Jai R&#257m died just three days after the death of his wife, N&#257nak&#299.
