In 1809, Fateh <u>Kh</u>&#257n dethroned Sh&#257h Shuj&#257, placed Sh&#257h Mahm&#363d on the throne and himself became prime minister. Sh&#257h Shuj&#257 was taken prisoner at Attock by Jah&#257&#7749d&#257d <u>Kh</u>&#257n who had him delivered to his brother 'At&#257 Muhammad <u>Kh</u>&#257n, the governor of Kashm&#299r. Fateh <u>Kh</u>&#257n turned towards Kashm&#299r and defeated and expelled 'At&#257 Muhammad. Jah&#257&#7749d&#257d <u>Kh</u>&#257n, fearing that Fateh <u>Kh</u>&#257n would oust him from Attock, surrendered the fort in 1813 to Mah&#257r&#257j&#257 Ra&#7751j&#299t Si&#7749gh in return for a <i>j&#257g&#299r</i> and cash allowance. In 1818, Ra&#7751j&#299t Si&#7749gh captured Pesh&#257war and placed it under the charge of Jah&#257&#7749d&#257d <u>Kh</u>&#257n. Another B&#257rakza&#299 brother, Y&#257r Muhammad <u>Kh</u>&#257n, expelled Jah&#257&#7749d&#257d <u>Kh</u>&#257n from Pesh&#257war forcing him to flee back to Attock.
