He was of Persian descent and a grandson of Qamar ud-D&#299n, an officer in the army of N&#257dir Sh&#257h. In 1810, on the death of Jodh Si&#7749gh, Im&#257m Sh&#257h joined service under Ra&#7751j&#299t Si&#7749gh. Im&#257m Sh&#257h took part in various expeditions undertaken by the Mah&#257r&#257j&#257. He was killed in action on 10 February 1846 at Sabhr&#257o&#7749 during the first Anglo-Sikh war.
