In 1840, he was sent to Bann&#363 under the orders of R&#257j&#257 Suchet Si&#7749gh for the realization of State revenue. Mah&#257r&#257j&#257 Sher Si&#7749gh conferred upon him the title of D&#299w&#257n. In 1847, he was ordered to accompany Lieut Herbert Edwardes to Bann&#363 whom he continued to assist in the settlement of the district until the commencement of the second Anglo-Sikh war. After the British occupied the Punjab in 1849, they allowed him to retain a <i>j&#257g&#299r</i> worth 2,300 rupees near P&#257kpa&#7789&#7789an. In 1855, he was appointed <i>tahs&#299ld&#257r</i> of Pasr&#363r, in Si&#257lko&#7789 district, which post he resigned in 1858.
