He was accompanied by Bh&#257&#299 R&#257m&#257 and Bh&#257&#299 Ja&#7789&#7789&#363, both from Sh&#257hdar&#257. They supplicated with folded hands : "O True King! We regularly hear <i>k&#299rtan</i> and religious discourses, but we retain not what we hear. Be kind to tell us how we shall be saved." The Gur&#363, according to Bh&#257&#299 Man&#299 Si&#7749gh, <i>Sikh&#257&#7749 d&#299 Bhagat M&#257l&#257</i>, said, "Retention depends upon a combination of hearing, believing, repeated reflection and practising what one hears, believes and reflects upon. Follow this path and you shall be liberated from the cycle of birth and death during this life itself. You shall be <i>j&#299vanmukta</i>.
