<p class="C1">&#65279HAY&#256T <u>KH</u>&#256N (d. 1688), one of the disbanded officials of the Mu<u>gh</u>al army who, along with five hundred Pa&#7789h&#257n soldiers, was recruited by Gur&#363 Gobind Si&#7749gh at P&#257o&#7751&#7789&#257 S&#257hib, on the recommendation of P&#299r Buddh&#363 Sh&#257h of Sa&#7693haur&#257.. On the eve of the battle of Bha&#7749g&#257&#7751&#299, he however deserted the Gur&#363 and joined the hill chiefs against him. Hay&#257t <u>Kh</u>&#257n was challenged in the battle by Kirp&#257l, the <i>mahant</i> or head of the Ud&#257s&#299 <i>s&#257dh&#363s</i>. Kirp&#257l killed Hay&#257t <u>Kh</u>&#257n with his heavy club. The feat is described by Gur&#363 Gobind Si&#7749gh in a vivid image in his <i>Bachitra N&#257&#7789ak</i>.</p>
