His next appointment was as Ad&#257lat&#299 or judge at Mult&#257n under the Sikh governor of the province, D&#299w&#257n S&#257van Mall, but he soon returned to the army. In 1836, he secured a ranked position in the Sikh court which he held until 1839, when he was sent again to Mult&#257n to take charge of the salt customs. Mah&#257r&#257j&#257 Sher Si&#7749gh made him administrator of Shei<u>kh</u>&#363pur&#257. When Jaw&#257har Si&#7749gh became prime minister in 1844, he dismissed Harsukh R&#257i from service and confiscated his <i>j&#257g&#299rs</i> for his alleged involvement in intrigues with Prince Pashaur&#257 Si&#7749gh against him. Harsukh R&#257i again came into favour when power passed into the hands of R&#257j&#257 L&#257l Si&#7749gh who created him a general in the army.</p> <p class="C1">&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; On the annexation of the Punjab, Harsukh R&#257i was appointed by the British a Tahs&#299ld&#257r.
