Bh&#257&#299 Gurba<u>kh</u>sh Si&#7749gh exercised great influence over the soldiery and this accounted for his popularity with Mah&#257r&#257j&#257 Sher Si&#7749gh. Prince Pashaur&#257 Si&#7749gh was his ardent disciple and admirer. When he suddenly appeared at Lahore in January 1845 to stake his claim to the throne after the removal of R&#257j&#257 H&#299r&#257 Si&#7749gh from the scene, he stayed with him (Bh&#257&#299 Gurba<u>kh</u>sh Si&#7749gh).
