Written in Braj, Gurmukh&#299 characters, the work was completed in 1891 Bk/ AD 1834. The manuscript, two copies of which are available one each in the Punjab State Archives at Pa&#7789i&#257l&#257 (No. 682) and the Punjabi University at Pa&#7789i&#257l&#257, has since been published (Punjabi University, 1986) . The work is divided into ten chapters, here called hul&#257s, each dealing with the life of one of the nine Gur&#363s. The opening chapter on Gur&#363 N&#257nak comprises 414 chhands or stanzas, followed by one on Gur&#363 A&#7749gad (135 stanzas). The chapter on Gur&#363 Hargobind is the longest, 593 stanzas. The ninth chapter on Gur&#363 Tegh Bah&#257dur (71 stanzas) and the tenth (45 stanzas), which deals with the life and work of the author, are the briefest. The book excludes the life of Gur&#363 Gobind Si&#7749gh which forms part of the author's larger work Si&#7749gh S&#257gar. The colophon at the end says that the author belonged to the village of Sa&#7789hi&#257l&#257 in Amritsar district and spent a good part of his life at the court of the Pa&#7789i&#257l&#257 ruler. It was here during the reign of Mah&#257r&#257j&#257 Karam Si&#7749gh (1798-1845) that he completed this work.

Pi&#257r&#257 Si&#7749gh Padam
